UPC-A input rules

• Use digits only—spaces, letters, and punctuation are not valid.
• Enter 11 digits when the check digit should be calculated.
• Enter 12 digits when you already have the complete UPC-A value.
• A mismatched 12th digit is rejected instead of creating a misleading label.

UPC-A vs EAN-13

UPC-A uses 12 digits and EAN-13 uses 13. Both are retail product barcode formats, but the correct choice depends on the number already assigned to the product and the requirements of the retailer or marketplace. Do not convert identifiers simply to make them fit a label.
